Getting married at Anglican Churches Springwood
Congratulations! We are pleased to hear that you’re getting married and wish you every joy and happiness.
The following information is to help you get acquainted with the general policies for weddings at Anglican Churches Springwood. We want to be as helpful as possible to ensure that your wedding is a meaningful and happy day, and your marriage is long-lasting and joyful.
Marriage is the symbol of God’s unending love for his people, and of the union between Christ and his Church. The bride and groom make solemn vows before God and commit their married life to Him. Accordingly, we seek to help couples to take their relationship with God seriously as well as their marriage relationship.
Preparations for Marriage
Our ministers are available to conduct your marriage, following the wedding rites of the Anglican Church of Australia. Our general wedding requirements are as follows:
-
This takes about 30 minutes. The dates for the wedding service and rehearsal are set, other requirements are clarified and any questions you may have will be answered. Administration fee to be paid.
-
We regularly run a number of courses which teach the basics of the Christian faith. We ask that you attend one of these courses.
-
If you aren’t in the habit of coming to church, we ask that you give church a go with us and to get a feel for Christian community and learn more about the Christian faith. We can advise you of the service that is most suitable for you.
-
We strongly recommend that all couples take part in a marriage preparation program. You will discuss various aspects of your relationship in preparation for your marriage. This generally requires around three meetings with the minister. The cost of this program is approximately $50, payable directly to Prepare Enrich.
-
If either person has been divorced, a minister needs to discuss the matter with you before we can commit to taking your wedding. The permission of our Regional Bishop needs to be formally obtained. This will include personal questions about previous relationships. The aim of this process is not to judge but to ensure that the wedding can go ahead in good conscience in line with Biblical principles.
